Sixteen minutes into the first half, Comet midfielder, Haakon Kjaergaard made a long pass deep in the Comet’s red zone behind the Bluejay defense. Zane Holmquist sprinted past the Bluejay defense, gathered the ball, and scored, ending all scoring for the first half.
61 minutes into the game, Midfielder Drew Fischer advanced the ball up the left sidelines and placed a perfect pass to Zane Holmquist who scored with a blast beating the CMC keeper. The Bluejays scored six minutes later with a rocket from the right side of the field, ending all scoring for the contest. Freshman keeper, Will Selvig, made several late game saves, preventing (another) the tie.
“The Comets came out flat at the start of the game but pulled it together midway through the first half. I felt our defense, Caleb Holm, Aiden Kim, EJ Cho, and Gabrial Mazon played very well today in difficult windy conditions.”
The Comets now 6-5-3 travel to Bemidji on Thursday for a conference matchup with the Lumberjacks.
