After a scoreless first half, Haakon Kjaergaard scored 64 minutes into the game off a free kick from deep in the Melrose zone off the right side. With five minutes remaining, Melrose scored tying the score, ending all scoring for the contest.
The Comets had eight shots on the Melrose goal. Melrose launched 12 shots on Freshman Comet Keeper, Will Selvig, with one resulting in the tying goal.
“The Comets came out today with intensity unlike our last game,” said head coach Rod Jensen. “We played hard from all positions against a very talented and aggressive team. Keeper, Will Selvig made eleven saves, several being layout saves, getting a hand on the ball that should have been goals for Melrose. He had an excellent game and secured the match tie.”
The Comets, now 5-5-3, travel to Prinsburg Monday for a match with Central Minnesota Christian.
