Evan Kovash led a 13-hit attack by the Perham Buzz U18 American Legion Baseball team on Thursday as they handed Willmar Post 167 an 11-1 drubbing in Sub-State 12 Tournament play in Alexandria. Kovash singled, doubled and homered in the game, driving in 2 runs and scoring 3 times. Alex Blume (2-4, 3RBI, 2R, 2B), Gage Aanenson (3-4, 2RBI, R, 2B), Ashton Detloff (2-3, 2B, 2RBI) and Gavin Griffin (2-4, 3B, 3R) also contributed at the plate.
Drew Ellingson (5IP, 7H, 1R, 0ER, 7K, 0BB) was the winning pitcher and Seth Urbach pitched the final inning, allowing a pair of hits and no runs.
Perham will now face Fergus Falls in an elimination game at 1:30pm Friday. The Buzz fell to East Grand Forks, 2-1, in their first round game on Wednesday. Should they beat Fergus Falls they would then play another elimination game at 4:00pm Friday against Bemidji or Moorhead.
