Otter Softball Team Loses First Round 8AAA Matchup with Little Falls

The Fergus Falls softball team lost to Little Falls 8-5 on Thursday in the opening round of the Section 8AAA playoffs.  The result means the Otters will now play at Alexandria in an elimination game on Tuesday, May 28 at 4:00pm.  Alexandria defeated Willmar 9-1 in their first post season game and then lost to Hutchinson by the score of 2-0.

 

Little Falls score a run in the top of the first inning, but the Otters captured the lead when they scored four times in the fourth.  McKenzie Sjolie started off the inning by drawing a walk.  Carlana Zetah and Kendal Hanson both were able to put the ball in play.  Sjolie scored on a passed ball.  Sophia Lee hit a triple, scoring both Zetah and Hanson.  Karyssa Eberle stepped up to the plate and drove Lee in on a single.  Little Falls responded by scoring 3 runs to pull even with the Otters at 4-4.  Fergus Falls took a 5-4 lead on a Little Falls error, but the Flyers took the lead for good in the top of the sixth, pushing across four runs.  The Otters put the ball in play in their half of the seventh, but wasn’t able to score.

Sjolie (BB, 2B, 2R) and Zetah (2H, R) each collected two hits and Lee (EB, 2RBI, R) had a big hit for the Otters.  Rylynn Krein struck out 12 batters and walked just one.
