The Alexandria girls’ golf team competed in the first day of the Section 8AAA Tournament on Thursday at Headwaters Golf Club in Park Rapids.  “It was a bit of a roller coaster ride for the players and coaches, as we did not get off to a great start,” stated Head Coach Timothy Zupfer of the lady Cards.  “At one point, through just 3 holes, I believe we may have been down to Detroit Lakes by nearly 10 shots.  We were just a couple shots down through 9 holes, pulled even after 14 holes, and finished the day 6 shots in front.”

Senior Captain Hannah Boraas had a career best, course record best, and school record best 5-under par score of 67 to claim first day medalist honors.  The Cardinals other senior captain, Aisling O’Connor was 5-over par through just 2 holes, but played the remaining 16 holes in just 4 strokes over par, allowing her to shoot a score of 81, which is presently tied for sixth, individually.

Rounding out the Cardinals individual scoring were Rachel Bowen with an 85, Ellie Sticha with an 87, Cadence Simon with a 91 and Grace Herzog with a 102.

The top six teams and the top 12 individuals not on those teams, advance to the second day of play on Friday, beginning at 8:30am.
