Perham Remains Unbeaten in 8AA Playoffs with Wins Over Barnesville and DGF

Perham remained unbeaten in the 8AA Section Tournament after beating Barnesville, 6-4, and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, 2-1 in 11 innings on Thursday at Al Krueger Field in Perham.  The Yellowjackets will now face East Grand Forks on Monday at 4:30pm in Perham.

Perham led their game with Barnesville, 5-0 after 4 innings of play, however, the Trojans scored four times in the fifth to trim the lead to 5-4.  The Yellowjackets added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the win.  Austin Schmelz (2-3, 3RBI), Evan Kovash (2-2, 2R, 2SB) and Ben Shumansky (2-4, 2B, RBI) led the 9-hit attack for Perham.  Schmelz (4.1IP, 4H, 4R, 1ER, 1BB, 6K) was the winning pitcher, and Blaiz Schmidt (2.2IP, 4H, 0R, 1BB, 5K) earned the save. 

Leaders for Barnesville were Jay Tschumberlin (2-3, SB, 2RBI) and Collin Morey (2-4, R).  Quincy Morey and Asher O’Brien each drove in a run for the Trojans.

In the win over DGF, Perham scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and the Rebels tied the game in the fourth.  The winning run crossed the plate for Perham in the bottom of the eleventh.  Evan Kovash (7IP, 3H, 1R, 2BB, 7K) was the starting pitcher and Ashton Detloff (4IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K) got the win with four innings of scoreless relief.  Kovash went 3-for-4 with a run batted in and Detloff had two hits in four at bats.  Gamble Bye drew 3 walks, stole a base and scored a run.  Schmidt walked twice and also scored.

Grant Anderson (4IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB, 6K) had a solid start on the mound.  The loss went to Brody O’Keefe (6.1IP, 7H, 1R, 0ER, 7BB, 6K).  Carsen Berreth’s solo home run was the only run scored by DGF.  Austin Anderson, Grant Anderson and Alex Anderson had the other hits, all singles, for the Rebels.
