An unusual walk-off propelled Brandon-Evansville to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Tuesday in the first round of the Section 6A baseball tournament.  The not-so-normal walk-off happened when Riley Perleberg scored the winning run on a dropped third strike that would have ended the inning.

Pitching was strong on both sides, with B-E pitchers striking out ten batters and LPGE pitcher recording 7 K’s.

The Thunder scored their run in the third inning on a Colton Park single, a stolen base and a throwing error on his attempted steal of third base.

The Chargers rallied in the bottom of the seventh when Kyler Sletto led off with a double and after a Lucas Fuller sacrifice bunt, Riley Perleberg was hit by a pitch and Brady Perleberg was intentionally walked.  With two outs, Desmond White drew a walk, tying the game, and then Landon Sullivan reached first base on a strikeout that got away from the catcher allowing the winning run to score.

“It really was well-played by both teams, with all the pitchers pumping the zone and both defenses turning in a couple of web gems,” reported B-E Head Coach Brian Perleberg.  “I’m certainly proud of how we kept our composure all the way until the end.  We knew we had missed some golden opportunities earlier in the game to score some runs, and had to put that behind us and just keep playing at an even keel.  I’m so proud of Desmond White (3.1IP, 3H, 1BB, 3K), Brady Perleberg (3.1IP, 1H, 2BB, 6K), and Landon Sullivan (1/3IP, 0H, 1K) for their combined pitching performance tonight.  They really did everything we asked of them and executed their pitches extremely well.”

Brandon-Evansville will face top-seeded New York Mills on Thursday.
