Perham Doubles Team of Happel and Wokasch Qualifies for State Tournament

Jack Birkeland of Perham lost his singles match to Kenneth Schmiesing of New London-Spicer, 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday in the Section 8A Boys’ Tennis individual singles tournament.  Isaac Maddock of Osakis won the singles title, 6-0, 6-0 over Jett Cornelius of Thief River Falls.  Cornelius won the true 2nd match over Schmiesing, 6-3, 6-2.

The Thief River Falls doubles team of Rhett Janisch and Reece Janisch eliminated the Fergus Falls duo of Grant Ackerson and Reno Schierer, 6-1, 6-0.  The Janisch brothers went on to win the doubles title, 6-3, 6-4 over JJ Cornelius and Geran Gonsorowski of the Prowlers.  The Perham team of Brekken Wokasch and Mason Happel started the day with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Connor Quelle and Tenzin Dahl of Minnewaska Area.  They then lost to Janisch and Janisch, 7-6, 6-4, before beating Cornelius and Gonsorowski 6-4, 6-2 in the true 2nd match, qualifying for the Class A State Meet.
