Hunter Haugen collected four hits in four at bats on Tuesday, as the Ottertail Central Bulldogs defeated Barnesville 8-3. Haugen singled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh as he drove in 3 runs for OTC. “I was seeing the ball well, and put some good swings on the ball,” said Haugen. “I was feeling pretty good.”
Ottertail Central saw the ball well, racking up 18 hits in the game. Haugen, Gavin Pausch, Owen Harig, Tyson Misegades, Noah Link and Jayden Harig each collected multiple hits. “We are pretty tough when our lead-off batters get on base,” said Assistant Coach Dakota Aeling. “We tend to make a lot of things work when that happens.”
Lane Dilly threw a complete game, going seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs, while strikeout out three and walking zero.
Carson Hagen (6IP, 15H, 7R, 4K, 0BB) took the loss for Barnesville. Collin Morey went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Trojans.
With the victory, Ottertail Central will be hosting their first playoff game on Tuesday, May 30 at 5:00pm at Tony Kawlewski Field at the Henning Fairgrounds. Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson said, "I believe this is only the second time ever that OTC baseball has hosted a section playoff game. The last time was 2015. This is the second winningest team that OTC has ever had at 16 wins. The 2015 team had 18. We would love to achieve that great milestone. We are having a great year, but feel like there is so much more that we want to achieve!”
The Bulldogs will travel to Evansville to take on the Chargers on Thursday in a 5:30pm start. As it sits now, the Bulldogs may face off with Fergus Falls in their first playoff game as the Bulldogs are currently the number two seed and the Otters the number seven seed. Seeding will be finalized on Saturday after the final regular season games are completed. “Fergus Falls is probably the best 7-seed you could find,” said Hendrickson, himself a Fergus Falls High School graduate. “They play in the tough Central Lakes Conference, so their seeding really does not show what type of team they really are, but we know that and we will be prepared. We are playing some of our best baseball at the right time.”
