The Fergus Falls girls’ track and field team finished second out of nine teams as they competed at the Wahpeton Last Chance Meet on Monday. “We were the only Minnesota team there,” reported Head Coach Niki Welde of the Otters. "North Dakota can qualify athletes for their state meet at any time during the season, so this meet is a chance for teams to give opportunities at the end of the season for kids to qualify. We like the competition and timing of the meet for our kids. Sometimes it is a last chance for our kids to vie for spots going into the Conference and Section time of the season, and again, it is a chance for season and all-time PR’s. We had amazing team improvements with 19 season bests.”
Brook Zierden had PR’s in the shot put and discus. “She improved by one foot in the shot and five feet in the discus,” said Welde. “Those are great gains, as she started in those events later in the season.”
Estee Versteeg once again led the distance team with amazing performances in the mile and her split in the 4x800. She ran an all-time top 3 time in Otter history in the 1600.
“We move on to a regular season meet at OTC in Battle Lake this Friday, and then the CLC Outdoor Championship meet next Tuesday,” added Coach Welde.
