DGF Falls to Albany in AA Semifinals

The second-seeded Albany Huskies will play for the Class AA State Boys’ Basketball Championship on Saturday after beating Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 79-64 in their semifinal round matchup on Friday at Target Center.  The Huskies will face number five seed Minnehaha Academy who defeated top-seeded Holy Family Catholic 76-72 in the semifinals.

Albany shot 56.4% (31-55) for the game and made 9-of-20 (45%) from behind the arc.  They were led by 31 points and 6 assists from Tysen GeradsSam Hondl registered a double-double (14 points, 11 assists, 9 rebounds), just missing a triple-double by one rebound.  Zeke Austin (12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) and Ethan Borgerding (10 points, 9 rebounds) were also in double figures.  Albany held a 30-25 edge on the boards and recorded assists on 24 of their 31 made baskets.

The Rebels were once again led by senior Owen Leach (30 points, 13 rebounds).  Drew Sheeley added 15 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds, and Grant Anderson contributed 8 points.  DGF was held to 33.3% (20-60) shooting for the game and made only 8-32 (25%) of their 3’s.  They did have success at the free throw line, going 16-for-20 (80%).

DGF will now face Holy Family Catholic for third place in AA Boys’ Basketball at noon Saturday at the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University in St. Paul.
