Alexandria Girls Fall in 3A State Semifinals

Benilde-St. Margaret’s went on a 12-0 run to start the second half as they increased their lead to 48-30 on the way to a 70-51 victory over Alexandria in the Class 3A state semifinals at Williams Arena on Thursday afternoon.

The Red Knights were led by 33 points from Olivia Olson who made 10-of-14 field goal attempts, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 9-of-11 free throws.  She also completed a double-double by securing 13 rebounds, while dishing out a team high 4 assists.  As a team Benilde shot 54.3% (25-46) overall and 50% (8-16) on 3’s.  Sydney Friedly was also in double figures with 11 points.  They also had a 38-30 edge on the boards.

Alexandria had a tough time against the tenacious defense of Benilde-St. Margaret’s, shooting only 29.8% (17-57) from the floor.  The Cardinals were led by 15 points from MaCee Linow and 13 from Hadley Thul.  Thul also had 5 boards, 3 assists and 4 steals.  Chloe Scholl had a team high 7 rebounds. 

The Cardinals will now play for third place in Class 3A at 2:00pm Saturday at Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University in St. Paul.  Their opponent will be top-seeded Becker, who lost their semifinal round contest to Stewartville, 60-59.
