Jaguars Send Rockets into Consolation Semifinals with 60-44 Win

The Underwood girls’ basketball team couldn’t overcome their 22 turnovers on Thursday as they fell to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the Class A State quarterfinals, 60-44.  The Rockets shot 36% (16-44) from the field, but had 12 fewer shots than the Jaguars who made 34% (18-56) of their shots.  BBE was very efficient on the line, making 21-of-29 free throw attempts.

The Jaguars had a 31-25 lead at the half after they finished on a 15-3 run to overcome a 22-16 deficit.

Abby Berge scored a game high 18 points to lead the Jaguars, making 10-of-13 free throws.  She also had 7 rebounds.  Brooklyn Fischer was in double digits with 14 points and Tiyan Schwinghammer turned in a solid floor game with 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.  BBE had only 9 turnovers in the contest.

Liz Lukken led Underwood with 16 points.  Mo Bugbee finished with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, and Mia Blaskowski had 8 points and 7 boards.  Kallyn Grove finished with 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.

Underwood (26-4) has a chance to set the single season school record for wins if they can defeat Minneota in their consolation semifinal matchup at 10:00am Friday at Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University in St. Paul.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (26-4) will face top-seeded Mountain Iron-Buhl at noon Friday in a championship semifinal game at Williams Arena.
