The Border West boys’ basketball team made it 22 consecutive wins with a 51-47 victory over top-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the South Sub-Section championship game in Section 6A.  The win propels the Buccaneers into the 6A title game against Henning on Friday night at 7:00pm at the Otter Fieldhouse in Fergus Falls.

“This game was decided by defense,” said Border West Head Coach Jordon Roos. “Our defense was outstanding all night and our boys executed our game plan about as well as they could have. We said we were going to be the team to find a way to limit Kaden Pieper, who is a special player, and we were able to do just that holding him to 13 compared to his average of almost 30. I actually thought our offense was better than the stats and score would say, but BBE did a great job blocking shots and contesting drives we had at the rim. The game came down to the end, and we didn’t make it easy on ourselves by missing some Free throws at the end but we got the stops and rebounds on the other end to seal the deal.”

Border West shot just 36.5% from the field, making 19-of-52 shots, 5-of-15 from beyond the arc.  BBE made 43.5% (20-46) on the night, hitting just 3-of-14 3’s in the game.  The Jaguars won the rebounding battle 37-28, but had 14 turnovers compared to just 5 for the Bucs.  Border West also went 8-for-16 from the free throw line, while BBE shot only 8 foul shots, making four of them.

Dylan Bainbridge led the Bucs with 20 points, 3 assists and 2 steals.  Clint Determan had 16 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.  Andrew Walker added 5 points, 5 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals and Cole Gilsdorf had a team high 8 rebounds, while scoring 6 points and dishing out 2 assists.
