The first half was a back-and-forth battle as the lead changed hands 7 times and the game was tied six times. The two teams, known for their prolific three-point shooting, struggled from beyond the arc in the first half as they combined for just 3 made 3’s in the first 18 minutes. That changed in the second half as Henning hit 3’s on their first two possessions to get the lead to 29-20. The Hornets finished with six 3’s, 3 of them by Tyson Misegades and two from Mason Hammer.
Owen Buehler had the only 3 of the first half for Battle Lake and then he caught fire in the second half as he buried six more 3’s and scored 24 of the Battlers 25 points in the half. Buehler scored 31 points total, while pulling down 9 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. Mason Dalluge added 7 points and led Battle Lake with 13 rebounds. Battle Lake shot just 27% (16-59) from the field and made only 7-of-28 (25%) 3’s.
“Owen Buehler was spectacular for Battle Lake tonight,” acknowledged Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “I’ve gotten to know Owen very well over the years. He’s a great kid and he finished his career with a tremendous effort.”
Leaders for Henning were Hammer (17 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals)), Kale Misegades (16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks), Tyson Misegades (13 points, 3 steals, 2 assists) and Lane Dilly (9 points, 14 rebounds). The Hornets did a tremendous job defensively on Jack Mekalson, holding the Battlers leading scorer to just 2 points on the night. Henning won the battle of the boards, 41-36. They hit 35% (20-57) of their shots from the floor and only 24% (6-25) of their 3-point shots.
“Another grinder, we are really proud of the defensive effort from our guys tonight,” stated Coach Misegades. “We shot the ball extremely poorly, but really dug in on the defensive end of the floor. Mason Hammer and Lane Dilly were big time on the glass. We’re excited once again to earn another practice and prepare for an ultra-talented Border West team on Friday. We’ll have to play our best game of the season to have an opportunity to win.”
Henning will take a 17 game winning streak and a 28-1 record into their Friday night matchup with the Border West Buccaneers. The Bucs have won 22 straight games after beating Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, 51-47. The game on Friday will be hosted by Fergus Falls at the Otter Fieldhouse and tip-off is set for 7:00pm.
