The Alexandria girls’ basketball team held Hill-Murray to just 16 second half points as they recorded a 57-39 win in the quarterfinal round of the Class A State Tournament on Wednesday at Maturi Pavilion on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Alexandria led 29-23 at the half.
Hadley Thul led the lady Cards with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Chloe Scholl added 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals, and Allie Haabala had 12 points. MaCee Linow and Lauren Beyer led the team with 3 assists apiece.
Alexandria shot 58% (25-43) for the game and made 3-of-8 (37.5%) from beyond the arc. The Cardinals also had a 24-21 edge on the boards.
Hill-Murray made only 35% (15-43) of their field goal attempts. They were led by Elise Groppoli with 11 points. Payton Mackley had a team high 8 rebounds and Katie McGrath dished out 7 assists.
The third-seeded Cardinals will now face second-seeded Benilde-St. Margaret’s at 2:00pm Thursday at Williams Arena. Benilde was a 64-53 winner over DeLaSalle in their quarterfinal round game.
