The Border West Buccaneers have a date to face top-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on Wednesday at 7:00pm at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.  The Bucs earned that matchup with a 70-62 win over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Monday night in the quarterfinal round of the Section 6A boys’ basketball tournament.

“This was a great game in a fun playoff atmosphere, the game was a battle and had its challenges like all playoff games will,” said Border West Head Coach Jordon Roos. “We shot the ball well and forced turnovers which was the big key for the night. We played pretty good defense for most of the night as well. We gave up a 14-0 run in the second half and were able to bounce back after that and finish the ball game. Proud of the mental toughness of the boys to withstand the run they made.”

Border West forced 20 turnovers and scored 21 points off of those turnovers, while assisting on 18 of their 23 made baskets on the night.  The Bucs shot 45% (23-51) from the field and made 14-of-22 free throw attempts in the game.

Clint Determan led them with 25 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.  Andrew Walker had 17 points.  Dylan Bainbridge (12 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals) and Cole Gilsdorf (12 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 block) were also in double figures for the Buccaneers.

With the win, Border West improved their season record to 24-2.  They have won 21 straight games.
