Alexandria Girls Win 8AAA Basketball Title

The Alexandria girls’ basketball team captured the Section 8AAA championship and received the number three seed in the Class AAA State Tournament which begins on Wednesday at Maturi Pavilion and Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.  Wendy Kohler’s team will face Hill-Murray in the quarterfinal round of the tournament at 4:00pm Wednesday. 

In their Section semifinal win over Willmar the lady Cards shot 48% (30-63). Chloe Scholl scored a team high 21 points, led the Cardinals with 8 rebounds and 4 steals, while dishing out 3 assists.  Hadley Thul added 16 points on7-of-11 shooting, distributed 4 assists and came up with 3 steals and 3 rebounds.  MaCee Linow was also in double figures with 10 points.  She also had 3 assists.  Allie Haabala finished with 8 points, 4 assists and 2 steals, and Camree Miller chipped in with 8 points.

Against Sauk Rapids-Rice in the section championship game, Alexandria made 32-of-66 shots for 48%.  Four players were in double digits, led by Hadley Thul with 20.  Allie Haabala had 19, MaCee Linow finished with 16 and Chloe Scholl had 10.  Thul secured 11 rebounds to complete her double-double, while adding 8 deflections, 3 steals and 2 assists.  Haabala and Lauren Beyer each had 3 assists to lead the lady Cards, while Kate Hennessy led the team with 5 steals and Beyer contributed 4.

Alexandria (24-3) has a nine game winning streak heading into the state tournament.
