Cardinals Fall to Cathedral in Class A Consolation Final

St. Cloud Cathedral fell behind 1-0 to the Alexandria Cardinals on Saturday in the consolation championship game of the Class A State Boys Hockey Tournament at Mariucci Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.  The Crusaders then scored the next four goals to post a 4-1 victory and end the Cardinals season with a final record of 15-14-1.  Cathedral wound up 18-13.  The Crusaders had 26 shots on goal and Alexandria had 23.

Nicholas Peterson got the Cardinals on the board at 6:31 of the opening period.  Tyler Kludt assisted on the goal.  Joey Gillespie’s unassisted tally at 16:05 tied the game at 1-1.

Andrew Dwinnell added a power play goal at 10:41 of the second period to give the Crusaders a 2-1 lead.  Assists went to Griffin Sturm and Cole Hwang.

Third period goals from Gillespie, assisted by Vince Gebhardt, and Kyle Kozak from Cade Simones, finished the scoring.

Elijah Rasmusen had 22 saves in the Alexandria net, while Nick Hansen stopped 22 of the 23 Alexandria shots on goal.
