The Barnesville Trojans went on a 22-6 run at the end of the first half to overcome a 21-13 deficit and take a 35-27 halftime lead on the Fergus Falls Otters.  The Trojans scored the first 7 points of the second half to build their lead to 42-27 and went on to post a 72-61 victory.  Barnesville got to the free throw line 36 times, making 24 foul shots.  The Otters were 9-of-14.

“We had a nice win tonight against a tough Fergus Falls team that is definitely not a number ten seed,” said Head Coach Matt Askegaard of the Trojans.  “Coming in we knew it would be tough and this time of year nothing is guaranteed.  After falling behind early we made a nice push to end the half by getting a few stops in a row and being patient and making them work defensively.”

Tate Inniger paced four Trojans in double figures with 19 points, while adding 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.  Carson Hagen had 13 and two players, Zach Bredman and Gannon Bolgrean added 12 points each. Zach Bredman had a team high 6 assists and Bolgrean led with 4 steals.

“I can’t say enough about the guys we have in our locker room,” added Coach Askegaard.  “They have done everything we have asked and then some.  I know this is only the first round, but it’s a big win for us after hosting the first round last year and losing.  I am happy and proud of our seniors.  Just a great group of young men who come out and work hard each and every day.  I know they are looking forward to the opportunity on Saturday as we head to Perham.”

Henry Bethel led Fergus Falls with 19 points, including three 3’s.  Micah Johnson hit four 3-pointers and ended up with 14 points.  Alex Ellison was also in double digits with 10.

Barnesville (17-8) will now face top-seeded Perham at 3:00pm Saturday at ‘The Hive’ in Perham.

Fergus Falls completes their season with a record of 7-20.
