Cardinal Boys Advance to Consolation Championship with 7-3 Win Over Luverne

The Alexandria boys’ hockey team held a 40-23 edge in shots on goal Thursday in their consolation semifinal battle with Luverne and that translated into a 7-3 Alexandria victory.  The Cardinals led 1-0 after one period, extended their lead to 4-1 after two and added 3 more goals in the third period for the 7-3 win.

Tyler Kludt started the scoring from Henry Ramstorf at 2:14 of the opening period.

The Cardinals built a 3-0 lead with a pair of goals by Leo Kompelien at 2:05 and 4:31 of the second period.  His first goal was assisted by Gavin Olson and Evan Anderson, while Kasen Muscha assisted on his second tally.  Luverne scored at 7:23 when Elliot Domagala found the back of the net from Patrick Kroski and Blaik Bork.  Muscha’s goal from Kompelien and Jack Lamski allowed the Cardinals to take a 4-1 lead into the final period.

Jack Lamski scored a power play goal from Olson and Joseph Lamski at 8:58 of the third period.  Brady Bork cut the Alexandria lead to 5-2 with a goal from Kroski and Domagala at 10:07.  Kludt notched his second goal of the day at 14:29, a shorthanded goal into an empty net from Joseph Lamski.  A power play goal by Will Serie at 15:40 was assisted by Owen Sudenga and Kroski to pull Luverne to within 3 goals at 6-3, but Alexandria scored the final goal of the day at 16:36 when Mason Loch buried the puck off assists from Jack Lamski and Anderson.

Elijah Rasmusen stopped 20 Luverne shots and Luverne goalie Tyler Arends had 33 saves.

The Cardinals will now face St. Cloud Cathedral for the consolation championship at noon on Saturday at Mariucci Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
