Battle Lake buried 15 3-point field goals on Wednesday night and won for a seventh straight time as they posted a 97-65 victory over Breckenridge in the second round of the Section 6A boys’ basketball tournament.  The Battlers led 50-28 at the half.

Drew Johnson made 7 3’s on the way to a 25 point performance and Jack Mekalson led all scorers with 28 points.  Owen Buehler finished with 13, Mason Dalluge had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Bradyn Roisum contributed 11 points.

"First off, hats off to the Cowboys, they are a well-coached team and played extremely hard tonight,” stated Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  “We are playing our best basketball at the right time.  Tonight we played great defense, shared the ball and took care of the ball on offense, and shot the ball extremely well.  The best part of our team is we have playmakers and scorers all over the court and that makes us hard to guard.  We had 3 guys over 5 assists tonight led by Owen with 9, Jack with 6, and Mason with 5, Jacob chipped in with another 3 assists.  The score was tied at 18 midway through the 1st half and from that moment on our guys got into a rhythm and we never looked back.  Mason had his usual double-double and filled the stat sheet after that with his 5 assists, 3 steals, and 5 blocks and shot over 50% on the night.  When he plays like that we are hard to beat, same with Drew when he shoots the ball.”

Alex Sanchez and Jake Kunkel led Breckenridge with 21 and 12 points, respectively.

Battle Lake (23-4) awaits the winner of Thursday nights’ game between Lake Park-Audubon and Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.  The Battlers will take on the winner of that game at 2:45pm Saturday at ‘The Hive’ in Perham.
