Rockets Claim 6A North Sub-Section Title with Win Over Henning

The Underwood girls’ basketball team overcame a 9 point second half deficit to register a 57-47 victory over the Henning Hornets on Tuesday night at ‘The Hive’ in Perham.  The Rockets win the North Sub-Section 6A title and qualify for the Section 6A championship game against defending Section and Class A State champion, Hancock.  The game will be played at 7:00pm Friday in Fergus Falls.

Henning went on a 10-3 run to end the first half with a 25-19 advantage, but Underwood outscored the Hornets 38-22 over the final 18 minutes, taking excellent care of the ball with only two second half turnovers and 9 for the night.  Henning had 16 turnover with 9 of them coming after halftime.

"Very proud of the girls, how they handled the adversity of an up and down game vs. a very good and an extremely well prepared and coached team," said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland.  "Coach Hepola does a great job.  Not on the stat sheet, Becca Johnson gave us some really good minutes that allowed us to match up defensively and give us different looks offensively."

Liz Lukken led Underwood with 22 points, 17 of which came in the second half.  Kallyn Grove had 10 points, all in the second half, to go along with7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocked shots.  Mia Blaskowski added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists, and Mo Bugbee contributed 8 points and 4 assists.

Ally Hart led Henning with 12 points and 2 assists, and Faith Fisher added 11 points and a pair of assists.  Becca Frederick had 9 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists, Natalie Eckhoff added 8 points and 6 boards, and Lyvia Misegades had a team high 11 rebounds.

Henning completes their season with a record of 26-3.

Underwood won for the 25th time this season.  They also had 3 losses.
