Thiel and Grismer Combine for 39 Points as Yellowjackets Eliminate Otters in 8AA

Top-seeded Perham has advanced to the Section 8AA girls’ basketball semifinals with a 77-52 win over Fergus Falls on Saturday night at ‘The Hive’ in Perham.  The Yellowjackets were leading 30-28 late in the first half when they went on a run to take control of the game, scoring 13 of the last 15 points of the first half to take a 43-30 lead into the locker room.  They started the second half on another run and went on to outscore the Otters 34-22 over the final 18 minutes.

Willow Thiel scored 21 points to lead Perham, hitting 9-of-13 free throws.  Cora Grismer came off the bench to hit 4 3’s and score 18 points.  Kaia Anderson and Kennedy Pilgrim were also in double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Senior Jenna Carlson buried three 3’s and shared the team lead in scoring on the night with Brynn Sternberg as both players contributed 9 points.  Julia Hajicek and Hattie Fullhart added 8 points apiece.  Seniors Karley Braeger and Cyntreya Lockett completed their Otter careers with 5 points each.

Fergus Falls ends the season with a record of 7-20.

Perham (24-3) moves on to face DGF in an 8AA semifinal contest at 6:00pm Tuesday in Detroit Lakes.
