Addyson Gravelle hit her fifth 3-point field goal of the night with 38 seconds remaining in the game, breaking a 45-45 tie and lifting Wadena-Deer Creek to a 48-47 victory over the Pelican Rapids Vikings in the Section 8AA girls’ basketball quarterfinals.  Gravelle finished with a game high 19 points in the contest.

Pelican Rapids led 29-26 at the half and once the Wolverines went ahead 41-40 the two teams went into a defensive stalemate with no points being scored for nearly seven minutes.

Montana Carsten scored 9 points, all coming on 3’s, Madison Carsten contributed 7 and Payton Gravelle chipped in with 6 for WDC.

“What a battle tonight in Pelican Rapids,” said Wadena-Deer Creek Head Coach Jordan Cresap. “In a game that featured a bunch of adversity and back and forth action, I’m really proud of our kids’ composure throughout the game. Every time Pelican would make a run, we would battle right back. Ended up coming down to a great defensive play made by Maddie Carsten to seal the deal. Awesome playoff atmosphere for our kids to experience. Happy for our girls to experience some playoff success, they deserve it!”

Ellie Welch led Pelican Rapids with 16 points and 9 rebounds.  Morgan Korf contributed 9 points, 9 assists and 4 steals, and Anna Roisum had 11 points.  Kelsey Isaman finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Pelican Rapids ends their season with a record of 21 wins and 7 losses.

Wadena-Deer Creek improves to 17-11 as they prepare to meet Thief River Falls in the Section 8AA semifinals on Tuesday night at 7:30pm in Detroit Lakes.
