Perham Uses Stifling Defensive Effort to Defeat Pelican Rapids 53-26

The Perham boys’ basketball team held Pelican Rapids to just 26 points on Saturday afternoon as they closed out the regular season with a 53-26 win over the Vikings.  Perham led 18-11 at the half and outscored the Vikings 35-15 over the final 18 minutes of the game.  Perham shot 41.5% (22-53) from the field and held Pelican Rapids to 20.5% (8-39) shooting on the day.  Perham finishes the regular season with a 21-5 record and will be the number one seed in the Section 8AA playoffs which begin on Thursday.

Jacob Daniels was the lone Perham player to reach double digits with 15 points.  He also had 6 rebounds.  Alex Ohm and Mason Happel each scored 9 points.  Micah Thompson added 7 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. 

“Our guys played hard this afternoon, we just struggled to generate many good looks on offense,” stated Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “We were able to hang in there defensively until about six minutes left in the game when they went on a big run to close the game out.”

Pelican Rapids was led by Miguel Torres with 12 points.  Charlie Larson and Ian Fahje finished with 5 points apiece.

Pelican Rapids ends the regular season with a record of 13 wins and 13 losses.
