Kompelien's Overtime Goal Sends Cardinals to Class A State Boys Hockey Tournament

The 46th shot of the game for Alexandria proved to be the game winner as Leo Kompelien broke a 4-4 tie with Fergus Falls when he scored 50 seconds into overtime on Thursday night at the MAC in St. Cloud.  The 5-4 win sends the Cardinals to the Class A State Tournament as Section 6A champions.

Fergus Falls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Jack Welde scored at 3:10 of the first period from Kellen Stenstrom, and Colin Becker added a power play goal from Stenstrom and Leighton Buckmeier 28 seconds later.  Caleb Lind answered for Alexandria with an even strength goal from Keegan Lucy at 13:50.

In the second period, Brayden Nelson increased the lead to 3-1 for the Otters with a goal from Buckmeier and Jax Katzenmeyer at 8:42.  The Cardinals pulled with one goal on Jack Lamski’s tally at 10:45, assisted by Kompelien.  At 14:43 the Cardinals tied the game at 3-3 when Tyler Kludt found the back of the net from Jack Lamski and Joe Lamski.

In the third period, Kellen Stenstrom scored from Jack Welde at 4:48 for a 4-3 Fergus Falls advantage.  A power play goal by Tyler Kludt, assisted by Jack Lamski and Joe Lamski, forced OT.

Fergus Falls goalie Ben Swanson stopped 41-of-46 shots on goal and the Otters put 32 pucks on Alexandria goalie Elijah Rasmusen.
