The Hawley boys’ basketball team placed four players in double figures on Thursday night as they defeated the Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans, 78-72.  The Nuggets finish the regular season with a record of 15-9.  They are in line for a number four seed in the Section 8AA playoffs which will begin on Thursday, March 9.

“Credit NCE/UH for not going away after our large run in the first half,” said Head Coach Nathan Stoa of the Nuggets.  “In that run our guys did what we hope they do all the time: move the basketball for a good uncontested look.  In the second half we went back to dribbling the air out of the ball and our offense stalled.  Defensively, when we communicated we were on point and turned them over or limited them to one shot.  In the second, we slipped up and they knocked down numerous threes and made it a game. Big performance tonight from Derek Tibbetts. Career high in points and he was all over the glass on both ends tonight.”

Tibbets led the Nuggets with 20 points and Sam Senske added 19.  Mason Gratton and Brevin Stoa finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

“Cliché time,” added Coach Stoa, “it’s win or go home time and our next four practices are going to determine if we can clean some things up and make a run.  I know we have the guys to do it, but we need to get on the same page.’
