Jack Mekalson poured in 37 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out 5 assists on Tuesday night to lead the Battle Lake boys’ basketball team to a 76-49 win over Lake Park-Audubon.  In addition, Mekalson reached the 1,000 career point milestone in the game when he sank a 3-pointer midway through the second half in front of a packed gym.

“I thought our defense was great all night, we rebounded well, and we held LPA to 27% (16/59) shooting,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  “We didn’t have a great first half, offensively.  Our offense was stagnant and we weren’t working as a team.  We were settling for too many 3’s and not getting our offense going by getting to the rim first.  The second half was a completely different story and we started to get to the rim, get out in transition, and get in a good flow.”

Owen Buehler (17 points, 11 rebounds) joined Mekalson with a double-double in the game, while Mason Dalluge added 6 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.  Drew Johnson had 6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists, and Jacob Radermacher finished with 5 points and 8 rebounds.

“Tonight’s game was an emotional one for us as it was senior night and we surprised everyone in the crowd, including his parents, as Bricker Bladow got the start tonight after suffering an ACL injury during the football season,” noted Coach Cameron.  “Bricker, us 3 coaches, and his physical therapist had the idea of letting him start tonight and we can’t thank the coaching staff and players at LPA enough for the kind gesture of letting us win the tip and giving Bricker the chance to get the ball in his hands this season before taking a shot clock violation.  Again, thanks to the LPA staff and players we were able to get Bricker in with a minute left and got him a 3-point attempts in the corner.  After a few bounces on the rim it went in, to cap an amazing night for Bricker, our seniors, our team and our fans.”
