Otters Dominate Third Period to Complete 4-2 Win Over Northern Lakes

Northern Lakes put 31 of their 42 shots on the Fergus Falls net as they took a 2-1 lead after two periods of play, but the Otters owned the third period as they outshot their opponent 17-11 over the final 17 minutes and scored 3 unanswered goals to claim a 4-2 win over the Lightning. The Otters advance to a 6A Championship game showdown with top-seeded Alexandria on Thursday at the MAC in St. Cloud.

The Otters struck first when Brayden Nelson notched a goal at 1:03 of the opening period with assists from Michael Schmidt and Griffin Babolian.

Northern Lakes wasted no time getting the equalizer to start the second period as Finnegan Fogarty scored from Darby Boelter just 20 seconds into the period.  Just over two minutes later at 2:27, Jerome Martin scored a power play goal to give Northern Lakes the lead.  Assists went to Easton Anderson and Wyatt Balmer.

Shane Zierden pulled the Otters even at 7:54 of the third period with assists from Kellen Stenstrom and Jack Welde.  At 8:45 it was Welde from Stenstrom to put the Otters ahead, 3-2.  Stenstrom gave the Otters a two goal cushion when he scored from Zierden and Welde at 13:12.

Senior goalie Ben Swanson stopped 40 Northern Lakes shots on goal to earn the win.
