The Ashby Boys Basketball Team defeated the Verndale Pirates 48-46 on Saturday, snapping a seven game losing streak.  Ashby held a slim 22-21 lead when the halftime horn sounded.

Jake Norby was the Arrows and game's leading scorer netting 16 points.  Bradee Christianson added 12 and made a huge defensive steal in the last possession of the game.  Kellen Dahlen contributed 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double.  Easton Nelson and Brodie Ecker rounded out the scoring with 5 and 4 points, respectively.  The Arrows shot 38% (17/45) for the game and made 60% (9/15) of their free throws.  75% (9/12) of those free throws were converted in the second half.

Verndale also had three players reach double figures.  Shawn Schmitz had 14 points.  Jaden Schulke scored 12 and Carter White added 11 points.

“We had to grind out every possession in search of a good shot,” said Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “Verndale runs an effective offense that was really hard to guard.”

The win improves the Arrows overall season record to 6-15.  The Benson Braves host the Arrows next Tuesday in a key section game.
