Hillcrest Lutheran Academy senior Maddie Ballweg of the Comet girls’ basketball team, is the Olson Oil Company Athlete of the Week.
“Maddie has spent countless hours in the gym and it was fun to see her get recognized for all of her hard work,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “She’s a great player, but an even better person, and I’m so proud of her!”
In 3 games this past week Ballweg scored 68 points and reach 1,000 career points as the Comets recorded wins over Ortonville and Battle Lake, while losing to Underwood.
In the Comets 83-50 win Monday over Ortonville, Maddie had 29 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists. She followed that game with a 10 point effort in a 72-62 loss to Underwood on Tuesday and then reached the coveted 1,000 point milestone in the Comets 71-56 win over Battle Lake on Thursday night, scoring 29 points. Ballweg also had 5 rebound and 5 steals in the win over the Battlers.
Hillcrest is 16-8 overall and 11-6 in Little Eight conference play.
