The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team took care of business in the second half of a girl/boy double header on Monday night in Fergus Falls, recording a 73-29 win over the Ortonville Trojans.  “Good things for our boys tonight,” said Head Coach Ryan Garvin of Hillcrest.  “I thought we did a lot of the right things early on both ends of the floor to come away with a victory.”

Garvin added, “Our defense was really pretty active and I thought we talked well together on the floor.  We were more communicative.  I thought our defense playing in space was pretty good, but we still need to contain the ball consistently if we’re going to be a contender when playoff time arrives.”

The Comets received solid nights from Justin Petersen (20 points, 7 rebounds), Luke Christensen (17 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists) and Noah Brumfield (20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists).

Sean Berge did a great job tonight taking care of the ball and playing perimeter defense,” noted Coach Garvin.  “Having him and Matthew Knutson coming off of the bench adds such a menacing intensity to our defense (6 deflections).  It’s such a gift to be able to look to your bench and get that kind of defensive production to add to the defense we get from Gabe Swedenburg on the perimeter and Luke in the paint.  Ethan Swedberg also gave us great minutes, scoring two points and garnering 3 assists and 3 rebounds.  These boys are such a joy to coach.  I’m looking forward to a great finish with this group.”

Hillcrest (16-4, 10-2 LEC) plays at Rothsay on Tuesday and will travel to Underwood on Friday.

Ortonville play at Minneota on Thursday and will host Central Minnesota Christian on Friday.
