M State Men End Home Season with Win Over Rochester

The M State Men’s basketball team avenged an earlier loss to Rochester with an 85-64 win over the Yellowjackets on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans played their final home game of the season.  M State led 43-35 at the half and outscored Rochester 42-29 over the final 20 minutes of play.

The Spartans made 50% (32-64) of their field goal attempts and hit 48% (12-25) from 3-point range and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.  They were led by Akok Aguer who scored 17 of his game high 27 points after halftime, making 11-of-16 field goals and all 3 of his 3-point shots.  Foday Sheriff scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half and Noel Kabanga scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half.  Kabanga and Sheriff led the rebounding effort with 8 and 7 boards, respectively.  Yonis Mohamud joined them in double figures with 13 points.

Peyton Dunham led Rochester with 14 points and 7 rebounds.  Andre Crockett and Quest McCrimmon had 12 points apiece.  Kameron Givens distributed 6 assists and scored 8 points.

M State improves to 14-10 overall and 6-4 in the MCAC South.  M State is tied with Rochester and St. Cloud for third in the South.  Riverland and Anoka-Ramsey are both 7-4, sharing the lead in the South.  Only four teams from the South can qualify for the MCAC State Tournament.
