Otter Boys Overcome Slow Start in 7-3 Win Over Wadena-Deer Creek

Fergus Falls got off to a slow start on Saturday afternoon, falling behind 2-0 after one period to Wadena-Deer Creek.  The Otter boys’ hockey team battled back to forge a 3-3 tie after two periods and then dominated the third period by scoring 4 straight goals and taking a 7-3 victory over the Wolverines.  Fergus Falls had 37 shots on goal and WDC had 14.  The win was the fourth in a row for the Otters.

Connor Davis put Wadena-Deer Creek in front 1-0 just 23 seconds into the game.  Cole Woods assisted on the goal.  Woods then scored with 49 seconds left in the opening period with an assist from Davis, giving the Wolverines a 2-0 lead after one.

An unassisted goal by Kellen Stenstrom at 3:34 of the second period got the Otters on the scoreboard.  Davis made it a 3-1 game with his second goal of the day, assisted by Aron Sutherland.  Fergus Falls finished the period strong with two goals in the final 1:29.  Brayden Nelson scored from Stenstrom and Shane Zierden at 15:31 and Colin Becker notched a power play goal from Jack Welde at 16:12.

The Otters carried the momentum they gained at the end of the second period into the third period as they scored four straight goals.  Welde scored from Griffin Babolian and Ethan McGuiness at 6:20, Jax Katzenmeyer scored from Gavin Goepferd and Becker at 12:45, Joey Johnson tallied an unassisted goal at 14:30 and Stenstrom closed out the scoring with an assist from Zierden at 16:04.

Fergus Falls (13-7) is at River Lakes on Tuesday and will host Alexandria on Thursday.
