Barnesville traveled to Wadena for a non-conference boys’ basketball matchup with Wadena-Deer Creek.  The Trojans led 41-32 at the half and went on to defeat the Wolverines by the score of 77-59.  Barnesville had a great shooting night, making 55% (31-56) of their field goal attempts and 8-of-17 (47%) three-pointers.  WDC shot 38% (23-60) on the night.

“Big section win tonight in Wadena,” stated Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard. “Going in Wadena was 11-3 and had some nice wins against some good teams and their losses were close and to good teams as well. The first 9 minutes of the game it was tight with both teams trading the lead a few times in the first half. We pushed the ball and ran the floor very efficiently for the most part, but we did have a few silly turnover which led to some easy buckets for Wadena. We took a 9-point lead into the break and never looked back.”

Leaders for the Trojans were Tate Inniger (21 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists) with a double-double, Gannon Bolgrean (16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), Zach Bredman (11 points, 3 assists) and Carson Hagen (10 points, 2 assists).

“In the second half we steadily increased our lead with efficiency on offense,” added Coach Askegaard. “We were better in the 2nd half defensively, but we still gave up open looks on the outside and some drives to the paint. However, that is going to happen against good teams. Overall, it was a good night and good win for us.”

The Trojans (9-5) host Menahga Tuesday night and head to DGF on Friday.

The Wolverines (11-4) had their seven game winning streak snapped with the loss.
