In a game that featured 9 lead changes and 7 ties, the outcome was in doubt to the very end in Hancock on Friday night as the Owls were able to hold off Hillcrest Lutheran Academy for a 71-70 Little Eight Conference girls’ basketball win.  The Owls led 42-39 at the half.

“It was a fun night of basketball with multiple lead changes throughout the game,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark.  “Both teams played hard and competed the entire game.  We had a half-court shot at the buzzer that just about went, but the Owls were able to come out on top.”

Ella Knutson (20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals), Maddie Ballweg (14 points, 6 assists, 3 steals), Lizzy Olstad (13 points), Ruby Peterson (10 points) and Madi Foss (9 points, 9 rebounds) were the leaders for the Comets.

“Overall, we shot well as a team and had another night of balanced scoring,” noted Clark.  “Maddie Ballweg and Ella Knutson both played great, all-around games.  They led us on the offensive end, but also had great defensive games for us.”

Hancock was led by 22 points from Kaitlyn Rohloff, including two free throws with 35 seconds to play to give the Owls the lead.  Rohloff also had 5 assists and 4 made 3-pointers.  Kaitlyn Staples and Karleigh Rohloff each had 15 points, while Misti Zempel contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Hancock (10-2) has now won six straight games.  They will host Lac qui Parle Valley on Saturday and CGB on Monday.

Hillcrest (10-6) will host Brandon-Evansville on Monday night.
