Minnesota State lost its second consecutive game on Saturday by losing to Mesabi Range 84-82.  The game was back and forth with the majority of the game being no larger than a five point lead.  It didn’t look that way early on as the Spartans raced out to an early 11-2 lead.  However, Mesabi had a 7-1 run of its own to close it to 12-9 and eventually regained the lead.  The game was tied at halftime, 42-42, and Mesabi Range won the second half 42-40.

Johnny Spencer and Mark Campbell II led the way with 15 points each and three players, Glentrel Carter, Nataj Sanders and Ziaire Davis added 13 points each.  Campbell and Spencer led the rebounding category with 8 and 7, respectively, and Campbell and Zion Sanford dished out 6 assists apiece.  Campbell had a team high 4 steals.  Mesabi Range shot 47.2% (34-72) on the day.  Five Mesabi Range players reached double figures in the contest.  Johnny Spencer hit the last two deciding points from the free throw line.

Mikele Kambalo, Yonis Mohamud and Noel Kabanga led the Spartans with 20 points each and Foday Sheriff added 17.  M State had a good shooting day, making 52.4% (33-63) of their field goal attempts and hitting 14-of-31 (45.2%) from beyond the arc.  Rebound leaders were Matt Gooselaw and Kabanga with 8 each and Mohamud and Sheriff with 7 apiece.  Sheriff had a team high 7 assists, while Kambalo had 4 assists and 3 steals.

M State will host NDSCS at 7:30pm on Wednesday.
