Losing a 3-year all-conference player in Tyler Bitzan and a 1,000 point scorer and 3-year all-conference player in Titus Fuller, will create a void that will be difficult to fill for the Brandon-Evansville boys’ basketball team. “We won a couple tight games against some good teams,” said sixth-year head coach Trent Hintermeister of the Chargers. “We were led by two amazing young men in Tyler and Titus. It was a very enjoyable season.” The Chargers were 14-13 at the end of the year with a 6-6 LEC mark.
Returning starters included seniors Dezmond White and Brady Perleberg, and junior Riley Perleberg. The Chargers will be looking to seniors Nathan Anderson, Kian Gackle and Aaron Gillespie, juniors Lucas Fuller, Carter White, Stephen Hamilton, Gracin Klimek and Cohen Rieland, and sophomores Tanner Riedel, Dustin Gillespie and Micah Fuller to battle for varsity minutes.
“We have 5 sets of brothers on our team, so to say we are tight knit is an understatement,” noted Coach Hintermeister. “Our players are going to compete really hard every day. We will be scrappy and hopefully be able to shoot the ball well. I am concerned about our height, but we will have to make up for our lack of size in different ways.”
Kellen Traphagen (Assistant), Adam Wagner (Assistant), Casey Lipp (Junior High) and Jeff Martinson (Junior High) round out the coaching staff.
As for the race for section supremacy, “I believe Section 6A will once again be one of, if not the best section in all of Class A,” said Hintermeister. “There are a lot of teams who return a lot of high quality basketball players. BBE returns some great players who played in the State Championship game last year.”
