VerSteeg helped her team to a second place finish at the Section 8A Swimming and Diving Championship Meet in Warroad on Saturday, taking runner-up honors to Park Rapids.

VerSteeg qualified for state in two individual events and as part of the 200 freestyle relay team, which finished second.  VerSteeg won the 200 IM and placed second to Faith Ham of Detroit Lakes, the Section 8A Swimmer of the Year, in the 500 freestyle.  Only 41-hundredths-of-a-second separated the two swimmers at the finish of the race.

VerSteeg is joined on the 200 freestyle relay team by sophomores Alexis Wellman, who also qualified in the 100 freestyle, Mayah Fear and Karlie Petersen.  Junior Aisling Cox will also accompany her teammates as a state qualifier in the 100 backstroke, as she placed second in that event.
