Fergus Falls High School graduate Sophie Rausch has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week.  The senior forward for the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds Womens’ Ice Hockey Team is one of three former Otters on the team, along with senior Hallie Sheridan and sophomore Ellie Anderson.  The Blugolds started their season with a series sweep of College of Saint Benedict over the weekend.

In the season-opening 4-1 win, Rausch tallied a pair of goals and added an assist.  The assist came on a goal by Sheridan.

In the second game, Rausch scored with just over three minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime, and won the game with a goal early in the extra period.  Sheridan earned an assist on the game winner.

Rausch ended the weekend with 4 goals and a pair of assists for a total of 6 points.

Rausch, who was at Hamline for her first three years of college, put her name in the NCAA transfer portal after Head Coach Natalie Darwitz and her assistant left for the U of M.  After receiving multiple inquiries and having several interviews she decided on UW-Eau Claire.
