Hudson Hackel’s 37 yard field goal as time expired lifted the Perham Yellowjackets to a 22-20 victory over Fergus Falls on Friday night, spoiling the Otters homecoming game.  “This game is going to sting for a while,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Steve Olson.  “We were in position to win it.  I am very proud of how we battled back in the second half.  We saw a lot of grit from our guys tonight.”

Perham got on the board in the first quarter when Blaiz Schmidt hit Alex Ohm with a 74 yard TD pass and Hackel booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

A 3-yard run by Griffin Babolian in the second quarter trimmed the lead to 7-6.  Hackel increased the Perham lead to 13-6 with a 4 yard run with 1:59 left in the first half.

Perham expanded their lead to 19-6 with an 89 yard scoring drive in the third quarter, capped by a 66 yard run by Braylon Rach.  Levi King’s 3 yard run, followed by a two-point conversion run by Babolian, cut the Yellowjackets lead to 19-14 after three quarters.

Eli Draeger scored from 7 yards out in the fourth quarter, giving the Otters a 20-19 edge, but the Otters couldn’t hold the lead as Perham went on a long scoring drive, converting a pair of fourth down plays on the way to the game winning field goal.

Schmidt completed 14-of-23 passes for 216 yards and Rach ran for 111 yards on 10 carries to lead Perham.  Evan Kovash caught 4 passes for 71 yards and Ohm caught 3 balls for 87 yards.  The Yellowjackets had 329 total yards, 113 rushing, 216 passing.

Fergus Falls was led by Babolian with 30 carries for 181 yards.  King had 77 yards on 10 rushing attempts.  The Otters had 310 rushing yards in the game.

Fergus Falls (1-4) will play a 4:00pm game in Roseau next Friday.

Perham (3-2) will host Osakis on Friday at 7pm.
