Cowboys Defeat Roseau 49-16

Alex Sanchez scored 3 touchdowns to lead the Breckenridge Cowboys to a 49-16 win over Roseau on Friday night.  Breckenridge had 323 (273 rushing, 50 passing) yards of total offense and Roseau finished with 143 (115 rushing, 28 passing) yards. 

Gavin Pederson got the Cowboys on the board with a 3 yard TD run in the first quarter and Gusten Bergkvist Eriksson added the extra point kick for a 7-0 lead.  Breckenridge made it 14-0 when Sanchez found the end zone from 9 yards out and Eriksson converted the PAT kick.

Roseau cut the lead to 14-8 with a 92 yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a successful 2-point conversion run.  Breckenridge then went 65 yards on the ensuing kickoff and Eriksson made it a 21-8 lead with the PAT.  Sanchez found the end zone for the second time on a 15 yard run and Eriksson tacked on the extra point for a 28-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Cam Nieto scored on a 16 yard run, Sanchez hauled in a 9 yard TD pass from Bailey Evans and Evans then hit Dawson Wienbar with a 6 yard TD pass.  Eriksson was successful on all three extra-point kicks and the Cowboys held a 49-8 halftime lead.

The only touchdown of the second half came on a 7 yard run by Roseau in the third quarter, putting the final at 49-16.

Nieto led the Breckenridge rushing attack with 115 yards on 8 carries.  Sanchez finished with 45 yards on 4 rushing attempts.  Evans completed 3-of-4 passes for 50 yards and 2 TD’s.  Sanchez caught two passes for 44 yards and a TD.

Breckenridge (3-2) will play at West Central Area/Ashby in Barrett at 6:00pm Friday, October 7.
