The Hillcrest volleyball team took an unbeaten record to Graceville on Tuesday night, however, the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Wolverines handed the Comets their first loss, winning in five sets, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 17-25, 15-10.

“It was difficult to walk away with our first loss of the season,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “It was a hard fought battle that went to five sets. The match had a lot of momentum changes as each team fought for the point. While we served well (98%) our passing demonstrated some inconsistency. We had a ton of unforced errors and we failed to handle the strong block of the Wolverines. Jessica Moberg had a ton of kills from the outside and we struggled to get a consistent block on her. Tomorrow we regroup, learn from our mistakes, and then TOGETHER we move on.”

The Comets were led by Hope Adams (9 kills, 4 serving points), Anna Brumfield (19/19 serving, 3 aces, 11 kills, 14 digs), Emily Adams (6 kills, 14 digs, 2 aces, 13 serving points), Ruby Peterson (39 set assists, 8 digs), Madi Foss (11 kills, 14 digs, 7 serving points), Ella Knutson (3 kills, 1 dig) and Maddie Ballweg (23/23 serving, 14 serving points, 4 aces, 33 digs).

Hillcrest (13-1) will travel to Parkers Prairie on Thursday for another Little Eight Conference matchup.

CGB (10-4) is off until next Tuesday when they travel to Rothsay to begin a stretch of three straight road contests.

No CGB stats were reported.
