The season came to an end for the Fergus Falls Hurricanes on Sunday night when they lost a 9-8 decision to the Waconia Lakers in the Class C State Amateur Baseball Tournament.  The game was originally scheduled for Saturday at 4:30pm in Dundas, but was moved to Miesville so Dundas could play in their home park.  The game was rained out on Saturday and moved to Faribault at 8:00pm on Sunday.  With the threat of rain again on Sunday night the game was moved to Waconia at 6:00pm.  The Canes end the season with a record of 15-3.

Fergus Falls fell behind 7-0 after two innings and trailed 9-3 after the top of the fifth, however, they battled back with one in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the eighth to cut the lead to one run.

In their three-run third, Sean McGuire doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a single by Alex Hensch.  Both runners scored on Tosten Mann’s triple and Mann scored on a ground out by Darin Stanislawski.  McGuire led off the fifth with a base hit, took third on a single by Mann and scored on another ground out by Stanislawski.  In the sixth, Thomas Bosek drew a lead-off walk and Carter Thielke singled.  Bosek advanced to third on a fly out and Thielke stole second base.  Austin Stanislawski plated Bosek with a single and Thielke scored on a McGuire double.  Hensch knocked in Stanislawski with a sacrifice fly.  Dan Revering scored the final run for the Hurricanes in the eighth.  He singled to lead things off, took second on an errant pick-off attempt, took third on a fly out and scored on a wild pitch.

McGuire (3-5, 2R, 2 2B, RBI), Mann (3-4, 3B, R, 2RBI) and Thielke (2-5, R, SB) were the top hitters for the Canes.  Shane Trattles (4IP, 1K, 1BB, 0H, 0R), a draftee from Sauk Centre, pitched well in relief.

“We had a rough top of the second inning with three walks and a few fly balls that dropped in and we found ourselves in a big hole but we did not hang our heads and battled back but just came up short,” commented Hurricanes Head Coach Davy Johnson.  “We put two runners on in the ninth, but could not get them home.”
