The Fergus Falls football team finished as Section 8AAA runners-up in 2021, ending the season with an overall record of 8-3 and a District mark of 6-2.  Three of the Otter graduates from that team are playing competitively at the collegiate level with Owen Babolian playing football at Concordia College in Moorhead, Sam Sorum playing football for NDSCS in Wahpeton, and Carter Thielke going the baseball route at Concordia.

“We lost a great group of seniors from last years’ team,” acknowledge Head Coach Steve Olson, now in his tenth season.  “We return all of our offensive linemen and a big portion of our defensive line, plus junior Griffin Babolian saw a lot of time at running back last season and senior Eli Draeger returns in the secondary and will see time at running back this year.”

Players on the line include seniors Alex Jensen, Hayden Dondoneau, Jordan Sitagata, Wyatt Carlson, Riley Pesek and Jacob Wandersee, and junior Eli Tollerson.

“We will lean on our big and experienced line on both sides of the ball,” said Olson.  “Running back should also be a strength for us.  Junior Brayden Nelson and sophomore Levi King look to compete for the quarterback job.  We have a lot of holes to fill at wide receiver and in the secondary.  We like the athleticism in the guys’ competing for those spots but understand it will take time for them to learn the speed of the varsity game.”

Shane Thielke, Keith Pearson, Josh Steer, Judah Burlingame, Ike Carlson, Kyle Owings and Ben Wedll will assist Olson.

Olson has DGF as the top team in the District and in Section 8AAA with Detroit Lakes also near the top in District competition.
