Four of the top five scorers from the Hawley Girls’ Cross Country team of a year ago, are back.  That bodes well for the 2022 season as the Nuggets claimed fourth place in the Class A State Meet, after finishing as runners-up to Perham in the always tough Section 8A championship meet.

Sophomores Lily Olson, Trista Baer and Sophie Cook, along with junior Ivy Tickel are an experienced core of varsity runners with a ton of success over the years.

“Lily and Ivy have been core members of three straight state meet qualifying teams and will once again challenge to be among the best in Section 8A,” noted Head Coach Nathan Stoa, now in his seventh season leading the Nuggets.  “To start the season we’ll have more questions than answers when it comes to figuring out how to replace the seniors that helped us to three straight state meet qualifications.  We should not be short on leadership or experience among our top runners, but will need to develop depth if we hope to challenge for another team trip to the state meet.”

Perham is Stoa’s pick to win the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and Section 8A titles.

2022 grad Lily Peterson is competing at Wartburg College.
