Fergus Falls won a pitching duel with Urbank on Saturday in the Region 16C Amateur Baseball playoffs in Kensington.  The Canes defeated the Bombers by the score of 3-0 behind a complete game gem from Darin Stanislawski (9IP, 11K, 1BB, 4H, 0R).  Drew Johnson (7IP, 3K, 1BB, 5H, 3ER) was the hard luck loser for Urbank.

“Both starting pitchers threw very well,” stated Fergus Falls manager Davy Johnson.  “Canes were able to jump on Johnson before he settled in. Darin was dealing all day getting ahead of hitters and keeping his pitch count down which allowed him to pitch all 9 innings. The Bombers did threaten in the 7th with 2 singles to lead off and a sac bunt moving runners to 2nd and 3rd but a K and a ground out ended the threat. Bombers went 3 up 3 down in both the 8th and 9th.”

Fergus Falls scored twice in the first inning as Sean McGuire led off with a double and scored on a double by Alex Hensch.  A ground out moved Hensch to third base and a single by Stanislawski brought Hensch home.  In the sixth, Hensch drew a lead-off walk, stole second base, moved to third on an infield single by Stanislawski and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Alex Hexum.

Hensch (1-3, BB, SB, 2R) and Stanislawski (3-4, RBI) were the hitting leaders for Fergus Falls.

In other 16C games, Dent beat Osakis via forfeit and Sauk Centre beat Alexandria 3-0.

Sunday games will have Breckenridge playing Urbank at 11:00am, with the winner facing Alexandria at 2:00pm in a pair of loser out games.  Fergus Falls and Sauk Centre will play in a State Qualifier game at 5:00pm.  All Sunday games will be played in Kensington.  Region 16C playoffs will continue on Friday night, August 12 in Carlos at 8:00pm and on Saturday, August 13 at 1:00pm and 4:00pm in Kensington.
