With a 10-2 overall record, a Section 6A title and a trip to US Bank Stadium to compete in the state semifinals last fall, the New York Mills High School football team is hoping to build off that positive momentum.  Head Coach Matt Radniecki is in his 28th year leading the Eagles.  His staff includes Peder Butenhoff, Bryan Dunrud and Eric Niemi.

“Playing in the state semi’s at US Bank was an amazing experience for players, coaches and spectators," noted Coach Radniecki.  “We are excited to build off that success.  This group will be special in its own way and we have talent on the field.  We will miss the seniors and that group that represented us so well last season, but this group is ready to establish its own identity.”

Replacing Dane Niemi, Jonah Johnson, Bren Salo, Noah Noffsinger, Braeden Peterson, Eathan Ruther, Jacob Guck, Hunter Rust and Cody Barthel will not be an easy task, however, there is also a lot of varsity experience returning.

Returning starters include seniors Brayden Ehnert (QB/LB), Jon Rinerson (OL/DL), Monte Briard (RB/LB), Jonah Ruther (RB/S), Nathan Fischer (OL/DL) and Will Oakes (OL/LB), and juniors Sam Kopveiler (OL/DL) and Will Siem (OL/DL).

Coach Radniecki is looking to juniors DaShaun Robinson and Teegan Lausten to step into key varsity roles at skill positions.

Radniecki sees Pine River-Backus as the top team in both District and Section competition.
