Bryan Strand had another outstanding football team last fall as his Barnesville Trojans recorded a 9-3 record, winning the 8AA championship and advancing to the Class AA State Semifinals before losing to eventual state champions, Chatfield, in a very close game.  Key players lost to graduation include Kaden Zenzen, now at NDSU, Cameron Heng, Noah Krause, Peyton Pauna, Travis Affield, Ryan Martinson and Brady Dollison.  The cupboard, however, is far from bare entering the 2022 season.

“We are very heavy with juniors and seniors, about 45-to 47 of them, which means we will have lots of depth,” reported Coach Strand.  “We will need to figure out who our starting QB is and a few other positions.  We should be very competitive with all the area teams and are looking for a strong 2022 season.”

Returning starters from 2021 include seniors Jonny Robideau (G/LB), Braeden Bredman (RB/S), Tate Inniger (E/DT), Tim Wells (G/DT), John Roller (FB/LB), Connor Loeks (FB/LB), Jordan Kroll (T/DT), Owen Riddle (QB/S), Andrew Pederson (RB/LB), Wyatt Suter (E/DE), Aaron Baker (D), Isaac Maneval (K/E/DE) and Spencer Schumacher (OL/DT), and juniors Ethan Larson (RB/LB) and Justin Krueger (C/DT).

Robideau, Bredman and Inniger will serve as team captains, with a fourth to be named later.

Strand will also be looking for varsity contributions from juniors Zachary Bredman (QB/DB), Dawson Gregg (RB/DB), Avery Schroeder (RB/DB), Jay Tschumperlin (E/LB), Jaxon Ernst (OL/DL) and Peyton Amundson (RB/LB), sophomores Gannon Bolgrean (QB/DB) and Nick Robideau (G/LB), and freshmen Major Ness (RB/LB) and Cameron Halverson (RB/LB).

Phil Trowbridge, Nathan Strand, Jacob Grosz, Dain Biewer, Ace Gregg, Kirk Peterson, Michael Strand and Adam Tonsfeldt will round out the coaching staff.

Coach Strand sees West Central Area/Ashby and Osakis as the main challengers in district play, with Hawley and Pelican Rapids joining Barnesville as the teams to beat in Section 8AA.
